WELCOME TO DAY 3 - SUGAR SCRUBS
And for DAY 2 click here.
If you're new around here, this week my fun and talented sister Leslie over at Try To Keep Up! and I are having a bit of a blog spa! All week long we'll be providing you with spa product recipes as well as reviews of store bought stuff too for when you just don't have the time to make it yourself! Each day one of us will be doing the DIY version and the other sister will be reviewing something she bought, so make sure to check out both blogs daily!
Today I'm going to be making a sugar scrub with you.
Scrubs are a great way to exfoliate and refresh your skin.
The one I'm sharing with you today is from The Big Ass Book of Crafts. My sister bought it for me for Christmas and this is the first thing (so far!) that I've made from it.
I couldn't wait to try the Lemon Tea Sugar Scrub.
But me being me, I couldn't follow the recipe. I actually only made one substitution which was using a lime instead of lemon because I thought I had lemons on hand, and didn't. Like I said, I really couldn't wait to give this a try.
What you need:
1 cup sugar
3 Tbsp. Epsom Salt
3 bags green tea (rip open the bags to get the leaves)
10 tsp. olive oil
2 tsp. honey
1 lemon/lime, zested
For a lot of this you could make "green" choices:
Most things here could be found organically grown. If you have to choose one product to buy organic, I'd suggest the lemon, because often with fruit the worst of it is in the skin.
You could also choose local honey if available.
In a large mixing bowl combine all of your dry ingredients except the lemon zest.
Mix in the olive oil.
Add the honey and stir well.
Lastly add your lemon zest and make sure everything is well mixed.
Store your scrub in an air tight container. I used a recycled glass jar and added a pretty label that I created with picnik and an image from the Graphics Fairy!
To use:
Moisten skin, grab a small handful of scrub and rub it against your skin. Rinse off, and pat skin dry with a clean towel.
I loved this scrub!!! Even with stubbly legs I could feel a difference! It does get a little messy due to the tea in it, but that really doesn't bother me!
The label on the scrub in the book says "face and body scrub" but I wouldn't recommend using it on your face because of the oil in it. If you wanted to make a face scrub, I'd suggest using glycerin in it's place.
Don't forget to stop by on Saturday for a chance to win a Lush gift card!!
I gave you an award on my blog today! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteThis looks really nice! Love the coloring in the final product and that sweet label.
