The BIG ONE {Wedding Cake}

Alright.  There has certainly been a lot of pre-amble up to the making of my sister's wedding cake.  I had never done this before, and so I had to learn as much as I could in a short period of time!

My first big cake with my new pans turned out delicious - chocolate cake with mint cream cheese icing (you can't really lose!)

After that I needed to be a little more brave and make a 2 tiered cake!

Then I started working with fondant for my Uncle's 60th birthday cake

Continuting to learn on my Grandma's (lumpy) 80th Birthday cake

I was particularly proud of the Skyrim Birthday Cake I did

Another cake for Amy

The last practice cake where I played with some lace texture...

That wraps it up for practice cakes.

The day came do to the real thing....

(This magnificent photo is taken by my sister's wedding photographer - Randal is INCREDIBLE! If you're in the Vancouver area, I strongly suggest working with him!!!  http://www.randalkurt.com)

It turned out great and I'm so glad that her photographer got so many amazing shots of it! (Thanks Randal!!)

I don't intend to be doing any more wedding cakes in the near future, but I definitely would for friends & family - provided I'm NOT in the wedding in!

Ten on Ten

Another Ten on Ten.  I'm glad I actually had a lot to do today!!!

10:00 am - Getting ready to leave for some Christmas Shopping

11:00 am - Crazy Purple Christmas Tree!!

12:00 pm - Clothes shopping - I really hate it.  This was the only thing that semi fit, and I decided I didn't like it enough to buy it.  My face reflects how I feel about clothes shopping!

1:00 pm - LUNCH!  Alright...so maybe The Works from NY Fries wasn't the healthiest option, but I enjoyed it!

2:00 pm - I'm sorry this picture is a little bury, well, a lot blurry, but I was trying to be stealth with my camera phone.  Yes, this is what it looks like.  A not so skinny (although even if she had been skinny I still would have thought it was ridiculous) female wearing jeans with giant holes just below her booty.  OMG!!!

3:00 pm - Home from shopping (didn't find something I wanted to wear for the Christmas party tomorrow) so I thought I might make a statement necklace instead.  I considered this one from Flamingo Toes.  (I didn't end up making it, but borrowed a 'new' top from a friend)

4:00 pm - Back at the whole Christmas shopping thing.  I'm looking to buy one of these "paperless cups" for a gift, but these ones are plastic, and I wanted one of the ceramic ones like these.

5:00 pm - Supper.  This pizza was surprisingly good!  I'm clearly having a very healthy day :P (just wait, it gets better...)

6:00 pm - I went over to Amy's (isn't her tree pretty?) for a Christmas movie night.  We started watching Fred Clause, but then talked through most of it and paused it to....

7:00 pm - To make these! They are delicious little puff pastries from Presidents Choice.  They were tasty, and oh so healthy!!

7:00 pm - one more because I didn't take that picture of myself.  Here are my little holiday "ice cubes" floating in my water glass.  I wouldn't want real ice to water it down. That would be silly :P

Thanks for checking out my day!  For more Ten on Ten:

In my home

I love the way my house looks at Christmas time.  The glow of the tree is wonderful! I'm blogging by it right now... I'm on that side of the couch by the tree right now!

It's beginning to look a lot like....

Scavenger Hunt Sunday!

This week was another one where it just wasn't happening.  I really liked some of the ideas for this week so I compiled something that is partly my photos and partly other people's.

Check out what other people (who weren't lazy like me!) did this week!

Black & White

I took this about a year and a half ago at Burnaby Village Museum in Burnaby, B.C.

I Ate This...

This is my extreme cupcake-cupcake cake.  Notice that there are white mini cupcakes baked into the green ones, baked into the cake.  For more details, check out this post!

Historic

This is actually a whole scrapbook page out of an old album...I think the bottom of the page says January 2002.  This was a night that has gone down in history for my sister and me.  It was a freezing cold night and we'd gone to a junior hockey game.  Ignoring our dad's advice to start the car at intermission we walked around the area checking out cute boys ;)  Not really surprising, when the game was over, our car didn't want to start!  We had to wait for our dad to pick us up (he was really happy about that, as you can imagine!) and we got cold... especially our noses!!!

Here's where I start getting lazy!!

This one is a little more traditional "historic"  This is a photograph of the first bridge built in my city.  It was used up until very recently (more on that later!)

Off-Center

Here's a more modern day shot of the pedestrian part of the bridge. Gorgeous photo that I wish was my own!

The End

The bridge has recently undergone many inspections, and it's been deemed unsafe.  Apparently it's so bad that it can't even be used by pedestrians.  There's a lot of discussion about what should be done with it.  The options are to tear it down and build a new (modern) bridge, tear it down and build a bridge of similar style, or restore the existing bridge.  The city is very divided and I don't even know what my preference is.  I would like to see it restored, because I find that so often in N. America we rip everything down when it gets old, and so we never have anything pretty and old.  And once it's gone, there's no getting it back!  So this is the end for the Victoria Bridge....

OR is it??

Thanks so much!  I wish I had a special giveaway or something for you, but  unfortunately I don't.  All I have is this ONE really cool pic for Scavenger Hunt Sunday!

Something Cold
This spider web covered in frost at my boyfriend's parent's garage was too beautiful not to photograph and just happened to fit in this week! Score!

Here I go!

7:30am - Leaving the house bright and early to take mom to work so that I can use the car to run some errands

8:30am - Leaving Superstore.  Leaving in an angry huff.  The same sort of thing that I just ranted about happened again.  I was waiting in electronics with a video game and my wallet in hand, the employee was on the phone, on bluetooth, for the longest time he kept his back to me, but I was standing somewhere he could see me, and  then he walked by to go check something else and stared at the floor like he was an engineer talking to a girl.  I may or may not have slammed the game on the counter, throwing my arms up and storming out of the store.

9:30am - catching up on my blogging! Commenting and linking up!

10:30am - I was putting the finishing touches on my fabric headbands for my craft show!  I didn't organize my thread by color just for the picture, this is how I like it!

11:30am - Ten adult headbands and ten for kids! All done and ready for the sale!

12:30pm - I love middle of the day showers! Oh the luxury of being unemployed! lol

1:30pm - at one thirty I was creating melted flower bobby pins, working on the melting part!!

2:30pm -  I started getting ready to go out for the day.  Here you can see my drawer organizer which I blogged about in a previous post, a little messier than the original pictures, but still doing it's job quite well!!

3:30pm -  I spent a little more time on the flowers....

4:30pm - I forgot!!  I'd just gotten to the mall to pick up my mom.

All in all I had a lot of fun doing this!  I'm definitely going to mark my calendar for Friday December 10!  One thing I did to help myself remember was to set my 3 alarms in my cell phone to go off every hour.  And when it did go off, I'd reset it for the next hour that didn't have an alarm set.
