Welcome back for another week of WTHW!!
September's prize comes to us from Leslie from her blog Try To Keep Up. aka my big sister! Awwww. :)
I've convinced her to donate a set of handmade cards for September's giveaway in exchange for sharing her blog with all of you.
Leslie is creating a set of cards for this month's lucky winner!
VHS tapes!!
I have a bunch of the ones that you record on yourself that I would love to find better uses for.
I'm interested in ideas for both the tape itself and the black plastic case!
To get your creative juices flowing....
A dress made from the tape inside!! How crazy! Find it here.
Craftstylish also has some ideas. I love these flowers on this straw bag!!
Let me know what you'd do with VHS tapes!

I don't really have an idea but a warning. I don't know how true this is so do some research first but when I worked for our school district in the preschool program we were told not to use the film in the VHS tape because it could be harmful to the kids. I'm guessing more because they could swallow it and choke on it BUT I just wanted to let you know we had a warning about it being used with kids. :o)
ReplyDeleteI spin it and then ply it with plarn (plastic bag yarn), then I crochet it into market bags.

I've also used it as ribbon and joined soda tabs together with it. http://textiles4you.blogspot.com/2010/04/solutions-steps.html
It also makes good ribbon and bows for presents. Recently I saw a blog post on how to make a vhs tape wreath.
I would remove the tape from inside keeping the plastic box intact. Then spray paint or modge podge the outside leaving the 2 holes open (that wind the tape). Adorn with jewels or other snazzy acroutrements. To finish it off, place on dining room table and put 1 taper candle stick in each hole! A homemade, totally unique centre piece!
ReplyDeleteYou could make several (of my first idea) and arange them together, if you had 3 or 5 and make a beautiful BIG centre peice :)
ReplyDelete..you are so creative. to be honest with you I would never have thought of recycling them into anything.I just gave them all away1
